Once again Comcast proves “comcastic” is NOT fantastic! Anything But! Goodbye Cable. Hello satellite! I am switching to DIRECTV!!
Not only do Medford residents pay more than almost everyone else in Massachusetts for basic cable, the rates are set to rise again on 2/1/08. Even local government officals are fed up. Now what does that tell you!! The department’s documentation also shows that 53 communities in Massachusetts offer their citizens more than one cable provider to choose from
Many Medford residents will see another increase in the cost of cable television this year and city officials are eager as ever to bring in a second cable provider, hoping that some competition will help regulate pricing. “The New Year is upon us and residents will be getting their New Year’s present from Comcast — higher cable rates,” said City Councilor Michael Marks. At a City Council meeting last Tuesday, Marks expressed some aggravation about the ever-climbing price of cable television. Comcast has to raise rates to increase corporate profits to fund its ever increasing executive compensation packages. Just google “Comcast CEO salary” of you don’t believe me, its insane what that guy makes every year. Cut his salary by 50% and its still more than 10 million and give the subscribers a break for once!
People all across the country who are sick of cable rate increases are switching to DIRECTV.
They offer the best price for more HD channels than any Cable company or the other satellite dealer, better customer service (According to JD Powers 3 years running), and their call centers are in America not Asia!

According to The Business Journal of Phoenix, Cox Communications Inc. is raising its basic cable rate by $2 in response to higher operating and programming costs. The cost of Cox’s 22-channel basic service will increase to $17.95 a month from $15.95 beginning Feb. 15. The Cox “Classic” package will increase to $39.95 a month from $37.95 and there also will be a 95-cent increase in the monthly cost of premium channel packages like Showtime and HBO. The Cox rate increase amounts to 5 percent. As the cost to carry channels steadily increases for cable and satellite providers such as Cox, Vice President Ivan Johnson said eventually those increases have to be passed back to customers. Customers who are tired of paying higher prices for cable are switching to DIRECT TV satellite television.

DIRECT TV CEO Chase Carey spoke about the satellite TV company’s HD efforts, sports programming and competition at the Citi Global Entertainment, Media and Telecommunications Conference in Phoenix last week.
Carey said that DIRECT TV will continue it’s High Definition push in which the company hopes to deliver about 100 national HD channels and local high-def selections. A satellite that’s being prepared for launch in the spring will help expand capacity for the service, Carey said.
As far as the competition goes, Carey said the satellite TV platform “has a lot more flexibility” for expansion into advanced services when compared to cable’s platform. DIRECT TV hasn’t encountered any trouble with AT&T’s fledgling U-verse platform.
As for sports programming, Carey said DIRECT TV has an exclusive lock on NFL Sunday Ticket through 2011. Given the NFL’s popularity and the interactive and HD efforts built around the product, “It’s an important franchise for us,” he said. If you’re an NFL fan, order DIRECT TV today. You won’t be disappointed.
